What is included in a standard Nordic Spaces kit?

The prices listed for our Premium and Standard Cabins models are for a  Nordic Spaces kitset. The Nordic Spaces kitset includes everything you need to construct your cabin from the floor joists boards up, including wooden double glazed windows and doors and solid Nordic spruce timber components.  Nordic Spaces kitsets do not include foundations, building wrap, insulation, electrical or plumbing.  Talk to us about our recommendations for these items and upgrading to aluminium or UPVC windows and doors.

Do Nordic Spaces products come fully assembled?

No. Nordic Spaces are delivered in kit form by truck. Nordic Spaces provides an experienced assembly service, contact us for pricing. You can also choose to assemble yourself if you feel you have the right building skills or organise a builder.

Question 4

What materials are used to construct our products?

Accepted Answer

Nordic Spaces use slow grown kiln dried Nordic Spruce from the cold climates of Northern Europe. A slow grown tree produces a tight grain, this tighter grain leads to a more durable and stable timber than NZ grown pine, it is used world wide in the construction industry due to it’s robust reliability, longevity and structural strength. The timber is also kiln dried which further increases its stability.

How long does delivery take for Nordic Spaces products?

For in-stock models, delivery typically takes 1–2 weeks after your deposit is paid. For out-of-stock or custom orders, expect delivery in 16-18 weeks. Contact us to confirm current delivery times.

Do Nordic Spaces products come with a warranty?

 • 5 year manufacturers warranty to all items.
 • 2 year warranty for windows, doors and all accessories unless stated longer by the manufacturer.

Our Premium Kitset Range
Warranty period
 • As per NZ Building Code to all items.
 • 2 year warranty for windows, doors and all accessories unless stated longer by the manufacturer.

Warranty conditions
Our warranty will not be applied if:
 • The base that was used for assembly was not appropriate – all buildings have to be assembled on a solid and level base that adheres to the precise measurements unique to each cabin.
 • The customer or a third-party assembly service did not construct the product according to the assembly instructions that were provided with the purchase. 
 • Since the delivery, the product has been modified or altered in the slightest. 
 • An approved cut-end treatment has not been applied to any wood right after it has been tampered with (cut, pierced or drilled).
 • The product has not been coated after the assembly (both the inside and the outside) and has not been coated once every year (inside and outside) afterwards with a protective coating with a minimum light reflectance value of 60%. Externally, we recommend Cutek Extreme CD50 for our Standard and Premium weatherboard clad cabins.
 • After the assembly was finished, the building has ever been in close contact with any plants, trees or exterior walls. In this instance, moisture can get into the timber and damage it. 
 • The product was not bought by the claimant to begin with.
 • The roofing felt or covering has been impaired or improperly fitted, giving a way for moisture to enter and accumulate.
 • The product was not assembled within 2 months of the delivery date.
 • The product was not stored in a dry place out of the weather until assembly.
 • The hinges have not been adjusted when the doors or windows expanded/contracted due to natural features of the wood.
 • The product has been poorly ventilated – humidity levels indoors cannot exceed 50%.
 • There’s a force majeure (for example, a flood, a storm or a fire).

Please be aware that timber is a natural product and is likely to experience changes, including some movement, warping, cracking and splitting, especially under severe weather conditions. However, this will not damage the solidity of the product, thus this natural occurrence is not covered by the warranty.

Question 7

How should I maintain the timber in my Nordic Spaces product?

Accepted Answer

Our products are made from untreated natural timber, so it's essential to apply at least two coats of premium paint or stain immediately after construction on dry timber following the manufacturers instructions. Re-coat your Nordic Space every two years or follow the manufacturer's instructions to maintain durability. We recommend using Cutek CD50X European (externally), Osmo Oils (internally and externally), Timber Safe (externally), or other premium paints and stains.

What are the special set-up instructions for Nordic Spaces?

Yes, each Nordic Spaces kit comes with detailed assembly instructions, and we're here to help if you need advice. Key points to remember: ensure a minimum of 300mm ground clearance below the cladding and a solid, level base for assembly, also remember to apply two coats of quality paint or stain following manufacturers instructions.

Do I need a building consent?

Generally speaking if your cabin is under 30sqm in floor area, has no cooking or water facilities you are not required to obtain a building consent. However always check with your local council or click here (https://www.canibuildit.govt.nz/sleepout)for more information on the regulations for building under 30sqm.

How do I make my Nordic Space even warmer?

Our standard kit provides some natural insulation due to the solid timber's properties. To enhance warmth, we recommend installing underfloor and ceiling insulation. For optimal insulation that meets or exceeds NZ Building Code standards, consider our Premium Kitsets. These allow for insulation in the 90mm wall cavity, under the floor, and in the roof space, along with a quality breathable building wrap like Thermakraft Covertek 407. Contact us for guidance and recommendations on materials like Terra Lana Wool Insulation and foil-backed PIR insulation boards.

2. Place your order and pay a deposit

3. Wait for your Nordic Space to be delivered (within a week if in stock or 14 - 20 weeks if it is a custom order)

4. Arrange for yourself, your builder or us to assemble your Nordic Space

5. Enjoy the peace, warmth and comfort of your very own Nordic Space

STANDARD Nordic Spaces wall construction for ancillary or outbuildings

Solid 44/70/90mm thick interlocking Nordic Spruce with double glazed windows and doors. To increase the insulation value of your Standard Nordic Space, insulation can be inserted into the ceiling and under floor. We highly recommend Terra Lana natural NZ wool insulation.
